Am I stuck in this life style until my wife and kids join me?
My life has been all about technology. I've watched TV most my life (not many movies, just cartoons and sitcoms), played video games, and been a computer user since they were publicly available for home use. I married someone who was practically the same as me. We had kids and so far have raised them to be practically the same way....
Well last year, I got sick and couldn't eat for like a month (really bad flu), and lost a crap load of weight. I felt good and I swore to keep the weight off since I was down to my high school pant sizes (not my high school weight but at least the sizes).
Today, I'm 20 lbs heavier. Why? Because through all my effort in being more active and eat better, my kids and wife have fought me and wouldn't follow my lead. Now I'm struggling with a poor self control to sweets (since they allow them in the house and I didn't) and I'm no longer active (kids are on summer break and won't walk with me or ride bikes)... Help!?
You are going to have to keep setting the example for a healthier life style. Although they won't go with you, keep going and keep asking. You have done a tremendous amount of changing but don't expect your family to fall into your routine. You changed your lifestyle but it didn't happen over night. Keep up the good work. Your family will eventually see how much healthier you are, how much better you look and feel and hopefully they will catch on. Now that you know how good it feels to be healthier, don't fall into your old habits. Keep doing what you are doing and make your changes into 'habits' and you won't be so likely to gain the weight back. Remember, exercise is the fountain of youth.
