What instrument would a producer buy as a beginner?
I have FL Studio and I was wondering what I should instrument I should buy to further the beat making process, either a USB midi keyboard or drum pad or something else; which do you think would be suffice for a beginner?
Keyboard, since it's much more visual (that's why most orchestral conductors use piano to rehearse even if their 'native' instrument is violin or another one), and you can play chords with one hand and take notes with another.
Most record producers play some keys, even those who aren't consummate musicians as such. You can easily, for instance, tell a singer 'you're doing the wrong note' and show them the right one playing on the piano. It's very convenient.
