Shaped Lighting layering, wherein the adult designer creates a white shape with soft borders to overlay an image, say of an ice-clad mountain. This would in effect brighten the part of the mountain picture falling in the white area and mask the part under the black areas in varying degrees corresponding to the soft edges and the pure black background.
Rays of light effect by drawing a white shape in the form of rays, as if coming from a particular light source, keeping in mind the perspective aspect. Then softening the beams of ray around the edges and decreasing its opacity to give it the look of subtle rays of light beams falling on your central object.
